Live Wires NZ Ltd have launched a new range of melamine plates by artist Tanya Wolfkamp at the Spring Gift Fair in Auckland. The range consists of four designs, from the top clockwise: Kakariki and Cabbage Tree, Yellowhead and Hebe flowers, Tui and Pohutukawa amd Kakariki and Mandarins.
They have also been published as a range of five square cards by Live Wires NZ.
The brief was casual, bright, fun with a tropical twist, using NZ imagery. So I dusted off my oil paints as I knew they would give me the pure and rich colours that the brief required and allow me to push around the paint till I was happy with the result. As usual I spent some time getting the colour palette sorted before I picked up the brushes.
It might be serendipitous that the plate mould chosen from the manufacturers turned out to have a slightly rippled effect. These plates are heavy and of an exceptional quality, I had to pick them up to convince myself they weren’t ceramic!
These are no longer in print.
