BACK COUNTRY HUT
BACK COUNTRY HUT
Couldn't load pickup availability
Original hand carved linocut from Tanya's NZ Bird series.
Pīwauwau / rock wrens feed in low scrub and open scree, only in alpine and subalpine areas of the South Island. One is pictured here among the native flowers of that endangered ecosystem: (from left to right) foxglove, mountain aniseed, edelweiss, forget-me-not, bluebell, celmisia, ranunculus and black scree daisy.
Built in 1952 the old Slaty Creek hut near Mount Ajax in the Southern Alps is one of the many back country huts made and used by hunters whose managed culling of introduced pest species helps protect such precious plants.
