Pīwakawaka (Rhipidura fuliginosa) are sentinels of the native forest, courageous and incredibly agile, issuing all visitors a friendly challenge to be tika and pono (honest and true). Fantails flick their tails to stir nearby insects into movement, making them easier to catch. Our little hero perches on a vintage honey tin which holds clematis, Marlborough rock daisy, Mount Cook lily, tĭtoki berries, kōwhai and pōhutukawa.
